About

Tammy Forster is an Australian author of children’s books, blending warmth and humour to deliver stories of friendship and connection. Her debut picture book, Dog Stayed, was published in March 2026 with Allen & Unwin.

Born in sunny Brisbane, Tammy has since lived in six Australian states while accompanying her husband, Adam, on military postings with their four children. Tammy has embraced her nomadic lifestyle – from tobogganing in the Brindabellas and snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef, to four-wheel driving through the Flinders Ranges and even flying a light aircraft over country New South Wales – each place leaving its imprint. Currently experiencing life in Ohio, USA, the American Midwest comes complete with groundhogs, squirrels and deer roaming past her window, as well as the occasional tornado.

Before becoming an author, Tammy completed degrees in Business and Communication and worked in retail consultancy and training management. After stepping away from corporate life for over a decade to raise her children, she reached a turning point when her youngest child began school. During this time, she wrote a short story for her reluctant-reader son, hoping to spark his interest in books. While her son enjoyed it, the process lit a creative spark in Tammy. She continued to write and hone her craft, studying bestselling and award-winning books, and two years later Tammy received the phone call from Allen & Unwin she had hoped for.

You will find Tammy travelling across the U.S, writing in quiet corners, or explaining ‘arvo’ to her American neighbours.

“A classic in the making, with echoes of beloved children’s tales like Old Pig and John Brown, Rose and the Midnight Cat.”
